We do the same, follow the rules (no lines may form before 5:00 p.m.). We head up to the seating area just little before 5:00 and hangout for a few minutes and wait for the official 5:00: p.m. forming of the chair lines to take place. When the Hodag security people post a color post near where we are we head to that officially designated spot, at which time we always get yelled by the people who have been in unofficial lines for several hours telling us we have to get at the back of the line. We always tell them read the rules no lines may form before 5:00 p.m. someone always gets security and there is always a discussion about the rules and we always win and get to keep our spot in the official 5:00 p.m. chair line. To discourage people form hanging out in unofficial chair lines all day I think the security should always place the color posts in a spot somewhere other then at the front of an unofficial line that has already been formed so the people who follow the rules get a fair shake and are not hassled by those who are not following the rules.
